Accepting that collaborative performances of significant scale suffer diminishing returns on investment, Public Recordings and friends decided to create a marketable festival show: the product you want at the scale we can afford; a rhizomatic dance staging the practical anarchy of business-as-usual. A dance that reveals the “baseline communism” of ostensibly competitive behavior.
CAPITALIST DUETS employs free-market dramaturgy, a structure for composition that’s applied to every relation that the production touches. From dancer and choreographer to theatre technician and art-presenting partner. Everyone involved holds the status of performer. And every performer dances according to the same rules. When attention becomes currency, market behaviour becomes a hackable system.
